The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) and the Patient Decision Aids Research Group recognize the importance of protecting the privacy of all information provided by users of our website. We created this privacy statement to document our fundamental respect of our users' right to privacy and to guide our relationships with our users.

Our patient decision aids do not replace professional advice. They are designed to prepare users to discuss their decision with a health professional.

Information Collection and Use

The Patient Decision Aids website collects information from our website users. Other than website usage logs, the personal information obtained is voluntarily provided by users.

Registration

When using some of our interactive tools, users must log in with a user name and password. Log in is required so users can save their information and access or edit it at a later time. Cookies are used to maintain a secure online session.

Information Use

The Decision Aid Library Inventory (DALI) is a public registry of patient decision aids. The information it contains has been entered and/or verified by developers for inclusion on our website. The Ottawa Decision Support Tutorial (ODST) is an online education resource to help health professionals further develop their knowledge and skills in providing decision support. Students using the ODST as part of course work may have their final quiz results reported back to their professor. The Ottawa Patient Decision Aid Development eTraining (ODAT) is an online, self-guided tutorial that takes people through the Ottawa patient decision aid development process. It only tracks usage. We do not share any other personally identifiable information with any other organizations or companies. We may share aggregate information (non-personally identifiable) with others.

Security

We use reasonable precautions to protect our users' personal information and to store it securely. Access to all our users' information is restricted. Only employees who need the information for quality assurance purposes are granted password-secured access.
