March 12 – Patient Information Forum's Fourth Annual Conference
PiF's fourth annual conference looks at both improving information itself and raising its profile as a valuable and necessary intervention. The event features a range of presentations, a panel session and master classes focusing on a variety of topic areas.

October 27-30 – The Hospitals and Communities Moving Forward Seminar
The Institute for Family-Centered Care in partnership with Calgary Health Region present this seminar which provides four days of comprehensive and practical sessions designed to help administrative leaders, physicians, nurses and other clinical staff, and patient and family advisors become effective agents for patient- and family-centered change in their institutions.

The Society for Medical Decision Making has made the September/October 2007 Special Issue of Medical Decision Making available free-of-charge for a limited time. This Issue examines the future of shared decision-making from various directions and features new research articles, reviews of the state of the science and other perspectives.

The Canadian Health Services Research Foundation publishes the essay: Introduce patient decision aids to improve clinical decision-making quality for "grey zone" decisions.

September 25 – Annette O'Connor Receives the Ottawa Life Sciences Council Health Innovation Award
The 13th Annual OLSC Achievement Awards Dinner honoured outstanding achievements in the Ottawa region's life sciences sector at the Ottawa Congress Centre. The Health Innovation Award recognizes Dr. O'Connor's work in developing resources that help patients and health practitioners make difficult health care decisions and improve patient participation.

June 1 – Dr. France Légaré named Canada Research Chair in Implementation of Shared Decision Making in Primary Care
Dr. Légaré's research focuses on identifying the needs of primary healthcare professionals to develop the active participation of patients in shared decision making. Dr. Légaré will also work to assess the impact of shared decision making on healthcare professionals and their patients. For information, visit Dr. Légaré's profile on the CRC Web site.


March – Revised RNAO Client Centred Care Best Practice Guidelines includes Patient Decision Support
The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) released a supplement to the 2002 version of the Client Centred Care Best Practice Guidelines. Within the supplement, the importance of decision support to the therapeutic relationship is acknowledged and nurses are encouraged to: a) recognize the need for decision support; and b) provide decision support using patient decision aids and decision coaching. Clear definitions are provided for decision coaching, decision quality, patient decision aids, and quality of decision making process.

November 18 – Evidence Report for the World Health Organization - Health Evidence Network
Annette O'Connor and Dawn Stacey author the report for WHO-HEN entitled "Should patient decision aids (PtDAs) be introduced in the health care system?"

Annette O'Connor elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences as Fellow

June 14-16 – ISDM
The 3rd International Shared Decision Making Conference featured the theme "Implementing shared decision making in diverse health care systems and cultures". The Ottawa conference built on the accomplishments of the first and second conferences, in Oxford (2001) and Swansea (2003).
